Saint Martin´s Cathedral is a Gothic church of the basilica type, with side aisles the same height as the central part. It was built in the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of an older Romanesque church. Over almost 300 years, the church was used for the coronations of kings of Hungary. The golden crown, which is placed on the pillow at a height of 85 metres, reminds us of this significant function of the church. The sculptor Juraj Rafael Donner made a famous statue of St. Martin for the church in the 18th century and designed the interior of the Chapel of St. John the Almsgiver

Devín Castle is the oldest castle in Slovakia. Its site was already inhabited in prehistoric times. At the time of Great Moravia, it was called Downia; and two smaller hill-forts near Devínska Nová Ves also belonged to it. Devín is a symbol of Slavic brotherhood and the struggle of the slovaks for freedom national independence. In the firt half of the 19th century, Ľudovít Štúr and his supporters revived its glory by organizing regular trips to Devín. It is the remains of an ancient castle overlooking the point where the River Morava flows into the Danube. Devín Castle was destroyed in 1809 by Napoleon´s army. Near the castle is the state nature preserve Devínska Kobyla, which means Devín mare

The western part of the High Tatras is dominated by Kriváň, which is known as the most beautiful mountain in Slovakia and is a symbol of national pride. The Tatras rise suddenly and steeply from flat basins to high mountain altitudes. The varied flora and fauna emphasize their uniqueness.
