Miroslav Šatan biography

He was born in Topolcany, Slovakia. Miro started with hockey for local team HC Topolcany in 1991-92 season. He was excellent, to example he tallied 30 goals and added 22 helpers in just 31 games. Graduating to the senior division in the same season. When he turned 18, instead of reporting to the compulsory army service for two years, Miro enlisted his services with highly successful army’s Dukla Trencin for 1992-93 and 93-94 seasons. There, Satan started to form into a strong and brilliants forward. His talent caught an eye of the NHL. Then Satan was drafted in 1993 to NHL by Edmonton Oilers. Satan’s 32 goals and 16 assists in 93-94 campaigns earned him a spot on the Slovak Olympic team in Norway. Since he was a kid skating during the winter months on the frozen ponds around Topolcany. As he grew bigger and stronger, his dreams grew as well and would come true eventually. As first he must played on ´farm´. Beginning with 95-96 campaigns, Miroslav Satan was inked to the NHL roster with Oilers. He played his first NHL game, when he also recorded his first NHL point on an assist. In Buffalo, Satan did not wait long to introduce himself to his new team. Just in his second game as Sabres got his first goal in a new uniform. The 1998-99 NHL campaign was best for him. Satan was a key player throughout the last part of the post season for Buffalo, although his team lost at the end to Dallas in the heart-stopping marathon of the final game.
The 1999-2000 season found Miro Satan in a great form once again. After a strong first half, Satan reached yet another milestone of his professional hockey career when he was selected to 2000 World All Star Team. It was his dream from childhood to play in the NHL All Star game. Again finishing season with plus 16 ranking makes Satan the best goal scorer of his club in 1999-2000 season.
One day suddenly called from Slovakia for Miro national Head Coach Jan Filc. For his talent he was capable for 2000 World Championships in St. Petersburg. And it is always a greatest honor for him to get a call from National Coach. To add Miro Satan into the lineup in Russia would boost Slovakia’s chances in the World Championships tremendously, because Team Slovakia needs the help of proven veterans like Satan, to reestablish its footing on the international senior hockey scene like never before.
Miro Satan was biggest hero for me for dreams about his live as he wants to be hockey player and for his talent. .
