Forrest Gump (A Film Review)

A film review

Forrest Gump is a film, with Tom Hanks and Sally Field in it. Tom Hanks won an Oscar for the film in 1994. In its first eighteen days, the film Forrest Gump earned $100 million in American cinemas – more than any other film that Paramount Pictures has made before. It´s a wonderful warm and funny story about a good-hearted young man from Alabama, who wins a medal for being brave in Vietnam War and who meets the President of the USA. Forrest Gump is an unusual man who does a lot of unusual things – he is a footballer, a soldier and a sailor.

The story takes place in America in the 60´s. Forrest as a child is not popular among his schoolmates and everybody thinks he is an idiot. Only Jenny understands him. Although he wears a special walk-helping apparatus, he becomes a good footballer.
As adult he goes to the war in Vietnam where another soldier Buba becomes his best friend. Forrest is courageos, saves Buba´s life but afterwards he gets injured. He comes back home and receives a medal for being brave from President Kennedy.
He meets Jenny when she participates in protest march against the war in Vietnam. They start to live together. Later, they break up. Forrest starts a succesful fish business.
At the end of the film Forrest meets Jenny again with a little boy who is his son but the boy doesn´t know about it. Forrest understands because nobody wants to have an idiot as father.

The film is a refreshing change from American action films. Millions of Americans like the film because they feel Forrest Gump´s story is also a story about themselves and about America from 1960s to today. I must say that I enjoyed the film very much, too.
