ENVIRONMENT
(enviromental groups + animals in danger)

In these days we live very quickly and we have no time to protect the nature. But this behaviour has its consequences. A lot of animals and plants suffer because people are busy, lazy and indifferent. We don‘t see the nature‘s devastation, which is conected with our problemless lives and we either don’t want to see it. It is more comfortable not to see how many troubles we cause to the nature. But some people substitute us because they can‘t look at this situation, they can´t sit passively. They join some organisations which try to save the nature in the whole world. WWF is one of these organisations, too. WWF (World Wildlife Fund) was founded on September 11, 1961 and from its inception it has invested in over 13.100 pojects in 157 countries. WWF directs its conservation efforts toward three global goals: protecting endangered spacies, saving endangered species, and addressing global threats. In the world there are a lot of animals and plants we have to protect. All these species are listed in the Red lists, which distinguish them into three groups:
Endangered are species which number falls quickly and for saving them are special measures necessary. Vulnerable are species which are still enough to survive but their number falls very quickly, too. Rare species can very easily disappear. In the Red list from 1996 there are written 5205 species which need help or protection. (This information I have found in 100+1 zahraniční zajímavost but on the Internet there I have seen that “only“ 1807 species are endangered=in general.) But this number grows every year. The giant panda is one of the most endangered animals. This beautiful mammal is very rare because of the output of wood in Chinese forests. Bamboo is the main food for pandas and it is a part of the forest which doesn‘t grow without trees above itself. It is very easy to understand: when people cut the trees, bamboo doesn‘t grow and pandas have no food. They have to move somewhere else, where bamboo still is. But there are almost no areas where pandas can live peacefully. Therefore only about 1000 pandas remain in the wild today. They live in seven separated little areas in China. There is a problem with their increasing because they can´t meet other pandas except their relatives and the cubs they have together are less immune against illnesses.

Pandas still can be saved, if the Chinese government forbade the output of the wood in the areas where pandas live. I know it isn´t so simple because this business provides a lot of money for China and it employes many people. Here we should ask ourselves what is better to do. It is difficult to decide. This problem can‘t be solved very radically, we must look for a compromise. But we should do something very quickly because pandas won‘t wait for us. (Maybe I have used a bad person in the ending, maybe it should be “they” instead of “we” but it really can be usefull when we care about it, too. Maybe we will help to save pandas once. I don´t know how but the life has tought me that everything is possible.).
